When you wake up, Do you have your first cup of coffee? Some of us just can't get started until we have a cup of coffee. The cup is a symbolic of many things as stated in the bible. Nehemiah was a cup bearer, Cup bearer was in charge of serving the King with coffee, wine, and so forth. The cup bearer is an officer of high rank and, is positioned to meet the requirements of the king. The Bible talks about different kinds of cups.

The Cup of Judgement - John 18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath, the cup which my father hath given me, shall I not drink it ? Jesus was obedient to the call of God. Peter tried to take a stand for Jesus by taking the sword and cut off Malcius ear. Jesus alone could bear the cup of judgement and, he endured the punishment due to our sins, Willingly took the cup of judgement of the world.

The Cup of Salvation - Psalm 116 12:14 What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits towards me ? I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people. The cup of salvation signifies our thanksgiving to God for all his protection and provision. The psalmist is magnifying the Lord for he has made atonement for our souls through his blood. We should continue to offer the sacrifice of praise to God, the fruit of our lips confessing his name.

The Cup of Joy - Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. God promises to fill our cups with joy if we abide and put our trust. Finally he assures to bring peace within our enemies because of his unfailing love towards us.

The Cup of Consolation - We are comforted through Christ. So let us comfort others as we have received peace in times of our distress. 2 Corinthians 1:4 Who comforts us in all troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 1 Corinthians 11: 23:26 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you. The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body, which is for you, do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.

The Cup of Self Righteousness - We should not be agitated or distraught of looking good just the outside. The lord wants us to examine our lives and our actions. The Lord looks deep into our hearts. Proverbs 16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the Lord weighs the motives. Matthew 23: 25 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

The Cup of his Anger - Mentions about God's wrath and his judgement spoken during the coming tribulation and the ones who reject Jesus as their Messiah. Revelation 14:10 They too, will drink the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the lamb.

Let us lift up the cup of the Nazarene our savior and call upon the name of the Lord, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Matthew 26:29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my father's kingdom.
